a)
Description of choices:
- I tried to keep the text elements as short as possible to keep the graph clear and not make it overcrowded.
- I tinted the area under the line grey in order to depict the increase.
- To visualize the peak year, I chose a red color for the text annotation and used an arrow and a circle to draw attention to the year and the data.
- To specify the current context, I included a label for the data from 2023 and used a symbol to highlight the data point.
b)
Description of choices:
- By comparing a smaller country with the four biggest nuclear energy producers in the world, a classic journalistic angle is presented.
- A color gradient is used to showcase the different rates of energy production among the countries. Finland's color is the lightest and USA's color is the darkest because the energy production in the two countries differ the most from each other (in this sample).
- I chose to include the MW rates for each country to be more transparent about the data for someone who just gives the graph a quick glimpse.
- To deepen the transparency, I made a text annotation that specifies the data measurement strategy and when the data was last updated.

- Yes!
Colours: How easy or difficult is changing colours using the tool?
- Easy.
Text/Labels: How easy or difficult is it to work with text and labels in the tool?
- Easy.
Flexibility: How flexible are the tools? Can you make the changes you need?
- Quite flexible, but I prefer Flourish in order to customize the visualization even more.
Accessibility: What are the different accessibility options provided by the tools?
- Alternative description for screen readers.
Smartphone: How do the charts appear on your smartphone? Have you faced any issues while accessing them?
- They look fine, but a bit "tucked in".

- Easy.
Flexibility: How flexible are the tools? Can you make the changes you need?
- More flexible and diverse than Datawrapper. Enables more customizing. However a bit more to keep track of and easier to get lost in all the options. Also not possible to customize the opacity of the background image, which is a downside.
Accessibility: What are the different accessibility options provided by the tools?
- Screenreader label AND screenreader description.
Smartphone: How do the charts appear on your smartphone? Have you faced any issues while accessing them?
- Nice! No issues.

In what context do you think Datawrapper is the best tool, and why? What are the main benefits of using Datawrapper? When would you not use it?
+ Datawrapper provides easy tools for creating maps based on data. It is also a good service when in need of quick solutions for data visualizations.
- Tools to customize the visualization graphically and interactively are limited, eg. adding a background image is not possible.
In what context do you think Flourish is the best tool, and why? What are the main benefits of using Flourish? When would you not use it?
+ Flourish provides visualizations that are more extensive and intriguing in their graphic components. It is also possible to choose among a huge amount of different sub-types of graphs and figures, not only basic ones.
- Map functions have been found to be a bit tricky to work with.
Which of the tools do you personally prefer so far?
