This article ‘The Shape of Slavery’, by The Pudding is a really unique project and I believe a great example of (good) data journalism. It compares historical and modern data to explore the relationship between slavery and incarceration rates in the United States, not just telling but showing us a remarkable overlap. It combines interactive maps with narrative storytelling to illustrate how historical patterns of slavery seem to still influence incarceration rates today, particularly in Southern states. The article provides context and analysis, linking past and present socio-political issues to highlight an ongoing problem.
